1947 In a 5-4 decision, Black holds in Everson v. Board of Ed. of Ewing that New Jersey can pay the fares of pupils to attend parochial schools in a program supporting s transportation costs for all pupils attending public and private schools. But, Black’s opinion establishes the “wall of separation between church and State,” as the legal standard.
